This is one long bridge. In fact, it has the longest span of any suspention bridge in the world. It was originally designed to be 1990 metres (just the central span), but the 1995 Kobe earthquake moved the pillars apart by 1 metre. On leaving Dubai, this is what we saw – spraw within haze.

This is Osaka, at least, one small corner of it. Today, on a hazy day, on top of a hill, I took this photo. It stretches out as far as I care to look, as my lens can see, and then it still keeps going. I actually like it here!
